MSSA/OPA Rockfish Tournament 2009
On the “calm after the storm” 34 members of MSSA and Ocean Pines Anglers Club and their guests enjoyed 2 days of beautiful weather fishing in the clubs annual Rockfish Rumble tournament. In the final weigh in on Tuesday afternoon over 60 Rockfish and some nice sized Blue fish had been caught.Rockfish Rumble Chairman Budd Heim had to resort to reading 1/8ths on his ruler when determining the top 3 places. In the end it was Captain Jim Giles on his boat “Sell Fish” who captured first place with a 34 5/8th inch Rock weighing 14 1/2 lbs. Second place was won by Elvin Shelly fishing on brother Captain Dick Shelly’s boat “Whatever” with a 34 1/2″ Rock weighing 13 1/2 lbs. Third place was won by Rich Patschorke also fishing on Captain Jim Giles boat “Sell Fish” with a 34 3/8th inch Rock weighing 12 1/2 lbs.Finishing just out of the money was the boat “Finally” Captained by Frank Watkins who had a 34″ Rock caught by Ron Fisher and a 33″ caught by Buddy Siegal. This was truly a tournament of inches but one where a lot of fish were caught and two great days of fishing were enjoyed by all the Anglers.photo identification as follows using file name;shelly2nd.jpg L to R Elvin Shelly [2nd place winner] , Captain Dick Shelly, Clive Walker123place.jpg L to R Captain Jim Giles [1st place] congragulates 2nd place winner Elvin Shelly as 3rd place winner Rich Patschorke looks on.Giles1st.jpg Captain Jim Giles holds up his 1st place catch with crew Rich Patschorke holding the 3rd place winner.submitted by Jack Barnes
