Recreational and commercial fishermen, support business owners, families, and community leaders gathered at the steps of our Nation’s Capitol on February 24, 2010 from noon to 3 PM to show congress a united front of the impacts caused by the unintended impacts of the Magnuson Stevens Conservation and Management Act as revised effective January, 2007 (RMSA). The overly restrictive management requirements created by the RMSA based on non scientific arbitrary deadlines are forcing anglers off the water, eliminating commercial fishing, preventing consumers from purchasing locally caught fresh seafood, destroying small family businesses, increasing unemployment, and adversely affecting coastal communities.
We fully support real science based management and the conservation of our marine resources while also being able to sustain recreational and commercial fishing activities, providing locally caught seafood, sustaining small family businesses, and supporting our coastal communities. Please stay tuned as the details are being developed and will be provided. Make your plans to join us for this historic event and work with us in a United effort from coast to coast.

Since we are at the Lion’s Club, I would like to suggest that you bring along any old eye glasses to donate as this is one of the club’s missions.
This is one way we can thank them for their generosity in using their facilities. Hope to see you there!
Don’t forget to visit our friends and sponsors as they are added.
Special thanks to Sam Kilgore from Atlantic Anglers has been extremely helpful in setting up this website! Thanks Sam!
Consider becoming a site supporter for Atlantic Anglers. It costs only $20.00. Sam Kilgore is a great friend of our chapter and set up our own site at no cost.
Sea Bass Closure!
We STILL wait for the new Sea Bass season.
NOAA Uses “Inadequate Analysis” To Deny Angler Access – Unprecedented Closure Causes Coastal Uproar October 5, 2009 – As reported recently by the RFA in a 7-page position paper (see MRFSS position paper below), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, is using flawed survey methodology to determine how many fish are caught each season by recreational fishermen, despite the fact that a scientific peer-review said the survey uses “inadequate analysis methods that need to be addressed immediately.” Instead of fixing the problem and addressing the use of improper science, NOAA’s Chief Administrator, Jane Lubchenco, has chosen to ignore the recreational fishing communities by denying angler access to a healthy, robust fishery. RFA has sent an official letter to Secretary of Commerce Gary Locke on behalf of members asking that MRFSS “not be used as the basis for real-time monitoring or in season adjustments to the recreational sector.” The battle to recognize our recreational community will continue in the days ahead.
